Walter Kenneth Hawkins, Sr., age 75, passed away Tuesday, May 13, 2014 in the Dickenson Community Hospital. Mr. Hawkins was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County and had been a member of the Flemingtown Freewill Baptist Church for thirty five years. He served as song leader and took part in several activities at the church. Mr. Hawkins loved singing and playing gospel music, hunting, fishing and camping. He was a retired surface coal miner. Mr. Hawkins was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Emma Huffman Hawkins and four brothers, Roy Hawkins, Jr., Bill Hawkins, Fred Hawkins and Rodney Hawkins. Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Irene E. Hawkins of Clintwood; one son, Walter K. Hawkins, Jr. (Tiggie) of Clintwood; one daughter, Deborah Hawkins of Clintwood; special granddaughter, Billie Renee Martin of Clintwood; one brother, Don Hawkins and wife Eva of Clintwood; two sisters, Kate Hawkins of Clintwood and Pat Sanders and husband Bill of Coeburn; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral services will be conducted Friday, May 16th, at 1:00 pm in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Lester Mullins, Randy Carter, Lynn Vanover and Don Hawkins officiating. Burial will follow in the Hawkins Family Cemetery located in the Longs Fork Community. Pallbearers will be Lowell Perry, Gary Kendrick, Charlie Smith, Larry Sumner, Timothy Adams, Mark Hawkins, Martin Hawkins and Craig A. Hawkins. Honorary pallbearers are Gene Yates, Denver Kelly, Eugene Yates, Brothers of the Church, Dale Smith, Ricky Smith, Dr. Thomas Bulle, Dr. Ramon Iberham and Clynis Phillips. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 15th after 5:00 pm in the funeral home chapel. A service will begin at 7:00 pm.
