Walter Kay Counts, age 84, passed away Friday, March 14, 2014 at Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky. Mr. Counts was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County and attended Peuther Chapel Church. He was a retired mechanic and coal truck driver. Mr. Counts was preceded in death by his parents, David D. and Celia Counts, four brothers and four sisters. Survivors include his wife Gladys Counts of Clintwood; three daughters, Pavelina Hall and husband Bob, Charlene Barton and husband Keith and Vivian "Babs" Bise and husband Harry all of Clintwood; one brother, Sidney Counts and wife Jewel of Clintwood; one sister, Alice Hogan of Baltimore, Maryland; one granddaughter, Kethena Kay Barton of Clintwood. Funeral services will be held Tuesday, March 18th at 1:00 pm in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Joe Glenn Sluss and Conn Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the Kay Counts Family Cemetery, Rose Ridge. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Monday after 5:00 pm. A song service will begin at 7:00 pm.
