Veronica Campbell Edwards, age 79, passed away Tuesday, December 4, 2012. She was born in Dickenson County, graduated from Haysi High School and was a retired worker from Duracell Battery in Lexington, North Carolina. Mrs. Edwards was a member of the Old Orchard Primitive Baptist Church and was a loving mother and grandmother. Mrs. Edwards was preceded in death by her parents, Ralph and Cretia Turner Campbell and two brothers, Ronald and Haskel Campbell. She is survived by her husband of 55 years, Elmer Edwards of Lexington, North Carolina; two sons, Elliott Edwards and wife Rebecca of Lenoir City, Tennessee and Wade Edwards of Woodstock, Georgia; one daughter, Rita Leazer and husband Terry of Salisbury, North Carolina; one brother, Donald Campbell of Big Stone Gap, Virginia; three sisters, Verba Fleming of Clintwood, Virginia, Ruby Whitton of Plant City, Florida and Margaret Turner of Big Stone Gap, Virginia and four grandchildren. A service will be conducted Friday, December 7th at 7:00 pm in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Minister Conn Edwards officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 6:00 pm Friday. A graveside service will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 pm in the Ray Edwards Cemetery located in the Backbone Ridge Community. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
