Vera Rose, age 90, died at Dickenson Community Hospital on Monday, April 24, 2006 after a brief illness. Born in Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John H. and Caroline Mullins Looney. She had lived all of her adult life in Dickenson County, and was the widow of Ted Rose. For the past 5 years had made her home with her sister in South Carolina. Mrs. Rose was a member of the Cumberland Church of the Brethren. She is survived by her daughter, Coletta Jo Fleming, Clintwood; three brothers, Danny Looney, Elyria, OH , Noah Gene Looney, Port Charlotte, FL, and Carl E. Looney, of FL; one sister, Georganna Perry, Conway, SC; her grandchildren, Angelia Smith, and Joseph Wayne Fleming; two great-grandchildren, Alex Hamilton, and Teddy Wayne Fleming. Funeral services for Vera Rose will be conducted at 11:00 AM Thursday from the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Ray Dummitt officiating. Burial will follow at the Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, VA. The family will receive friends after 6:00 PM Wednesday at the Clintwood Funeral Home with a song service to follow at 7:00 PM. Nephews, grand-nephews and Joey Hamilton will serve as active pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Dr. Saado, Johnny Sawyers, Gary Surratt, and members of the VFW Post 8979.
