SNODA ELIZABETH MULLINS ADKINS RAWLINGS of Honea Path, S.C. passed away on Friday, 23 January. She was 104 years old and the twelfth of thirteen children of the late James Sherman and Cordelia Ann Culbertson Mullins. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by all of her brothers and sisters: Maude Coleman (Miles), Lake Sanders (Jerry), Cowan Mullins (Mary Boyd), Stella Baker (Joseph), Jettia Burton (John), James C. Mulllins (Agnes Fleming), Theodore R. Mullins, Belle P. Henderson (Harry), Manila Gambino (Willliam), Elsworth N. Mullins (Clara Moore), Helen A. Berry (Frances R.), and Mars Mullins (Thelma Selfe), her son-in-law, LTG Kenneth B. Cooper, US Army (Ret) and both of her husbands, Frank Macon Adkins and COL William W. Rawlings, Jr. US Army (Ret). Snoda married her high school sweetheart, Frank Macon Adkins of Fremont after their high school graduation on June 20, 1930. They were married 55 years and had five children, four granddaughters, and six great-grandchildren. She enjoyed a senior romance with COL William W. Rawlings, Jr. to whom she was married for ten years. Snoda was born July 17, 1910, at the family homestead near Clintwood, Dickenson County, Virginia. She was the last living grandchild of Isaac and Elizabeth Mullins. Isaac came as a teenager with his father, "Holly Creek" John Mullins and his elderly grandfather "Revolutionary" John Mulllins, together with brothers and sisters, from North Carolina, to Virginia, and settled in Holly Creek Valley, Clintwood, Dickenson County, Virginia. She was also the last living grandchild of James Morgan Culbertson and Ann Ramsey Culberton of the Hurricane Section of Wise County, Virginia, and great-great-great-granddaughter of Joel Ramsey, a member of the Commander-in-Chief's Guard that protected General George Washington. Snoda's mother, Cordelia Ann Culbertson Mullins was a school teacher before becoming the wife of James Sherman Mullins, a Federal Deputy Marshal, Justice of the Peace, City Policeman and Virginia State Prohibition Officer. A member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Snoda was also a member of the Cateechee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (NSDAR) of Anderson, S.C. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren: LTC Mars M. Adkins, USMC (Ret), (Thuy), Charlottesville, Va., Virginia Cooper, Fort Belvoir, Va., Anne King, (Ralph Rogers) Redwood City, Ca., John Adkins (Patricia), Loris, SC, and Frankie Adkins (Wade Gambrell) Honea Path, SC., four granddaughters: Karen Marie Adkins James (Dean), Joni Lynn Adkins Gerald (Darin), Tuyet Bach Adkins Gould (Peter), Frances Anne Adkins Calcano (Rey), and six great grandchildren: Nathan, Jacob (Luwella), and Elijah James, Brianna Gerald, Tessora Gould and Bretton Adkins Calcano. Service will be held at Clintwood-Colley Funeral Home on Thursday, 29 January , 10 a.m., followed by burial at Phipps Cemetery in Clintwood.
