Shefford Sluss age 85, passed away Saturday, July 8, 2017 at his home. Mr. Sluss was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County. He was a member of the Pound River Church of the Brethren and retired from the coal mines after forty-three and half years. Mr. Sluss was a loving husband, father and a friend to many.
Mr. Sluss was preceded in death by his parents, Roy and Ora Sluss; first wife, Janice Sluss ; second wife, Opal Sluss; his brother, Wiley Sluss.
Survivors include two daughters, Linda Umberger and husband, Jeff, Tincy Hawkins and husband David all of Clintwood; step-daughter Patricia Breeding and husband Mickey of Clintwood; two step-sons, Tony Mullins and wife Lois of Clintwood, Steve Mullins and wife Mitzie of Coeburn; one brother, Ellis Sluss of Chesapeake, Virginia; one sister, Jetheral Mullins of Clintwood; extended family, Geketa Gray, Jackline Hojacknsi, Poochie King and Randy Mullins all of Kentucky; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives; special K9 companion, Spot.
Funeral services will be conducted Monday, July 10th at 1:00 PM in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Bill Rose officiating. Visitation will begin at 12 Noon. Burial will follow at Temple Hill Memorial Gardens, Castlewood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Keith Woods, John Blansett, Steve Blansett, Russell Stallard, Carlos Rose and Joel Salyers. Honorary pallbearers are Jay Conaway, Gary Moore, Carroll Puckett, David Hawkins and Claudie Deel.
