Obituary

Samuel Lee Anderson, 63, of Wise, Virginia, died Monday, March 14, 2011, at Holston Valley Hospital in Kingsport, Tennessee. Born September 6, 1947, in Clintwood, Virginia, he was the son of the late Sam and Dixie Kiser Anderson. Sammy grew up in Clintwood, and graduated from Clintwood High School, but was a long time resident of Wise. He was a machinist with ITT and Ingersoll-Rand and a coal miner with Westmoreland and Clinchfield Coal Companies. He was a devoted husband to his wife, Carol, for 36 years. Sammy was preceded in death by his brother, Bob Anderson. He is survived by his wife, Carol Jones Anderson; two brothers, Richard Anderson (Jean) of Hardy, Virginia and Doug Anderson, Clintwood, Virginia; four sisters, Sue Goodpasture of Bristol, Virginia, Pat Crook (Ron) of White Hall, Arkansas, Lynn Bainbridge (John) of Loxley, Alabama, Diane Anderson of Appalachia, Virginia; three sisters-in-law, Jean Anderson of Clinton Township, Michigan, Mildred Yates (Bob) of Clintwood, Virginia and Jackie Ison (Hargis) of Isom, Kentucky; one brother-in-law Steve York (Kathy) of Huntsville, Alabama. He is also survived by a host of nieces and nephews. Sammy touched the lives of many, as he kept in touch with many friends and acquaintances from his high school days who will miss him very much. He loved his parents and family dearly. He was a kind, loving and very thoughtful person who had a heart of gold and a wonderful sense of humor. The family will receive friends on Thursday, March 17th, 2011 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 Noon at Valley View Freewill Baptist Church. Services will be conducted on Thursday, March 17th, 2011 at 12:00 Noon at Valley View Freewill Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Phipps Memorial Cemetery, Main Street, Clintwood, Virginia at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Southwest Virginia Regional Cancer Center, 671 Highway 58E, Norton, Virginia 24273, attention Patient Fund.
