Roy McKnight age 85 passed away Thursday Sept. 27, 2012 at the Mountain View Retirement Home, Lebanon, VA. He was born July 21, 1927 in Barbourville, Kentucky. The son of the late Roscoe and Sarah McKnight, he moved to Detroit, Michigan in 1949 where he worked and retired in 1985 with Fleetwood Cadillac a division of General Motors. He met Thelma Viers on May 5, 1951, they were married 52 years. He is preceded in death by his parents, his wife, one brother and one sister. He was of the Christian Faith and loved working with his farm and animals. He is survived by his son; Larry McKnight and wife Deborah, Clinchco, two grandsons; Larry Lee McKnight, Jr, Clinchco, and William Talton McKnight and wife Callie Jade of Clintwood. One great grandson Connor Liam McKnight, one sister Ruth and husband Kenneth Peters, Sparta, Kentucky., one brother-in- law James Viers and two sisters-in-law Gay McNiel and Ruth Viers all of Haysi, Virginia. The family would like to give special thanks to the caring staff of Mountain View Retirement Home. Funeral services for Roy McKnight will be conducted at 2 PM Sunday in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joe Glenn Sluss. Burial will follow at the Viers Cemetery in the Back Bone Community of Haysi, VA. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends after 6 PM Sat. evening with a song service at 7 PM.
