Ronald "Bear" Fleming, age 71, died at the Johnston Memorial Hospital, Abingdon, after a sudden illness on Friday, April 24, 2009. He was born in Dickenson County and a 1956 graduate of Clintwood High School, a US Army Veteran and retired from the coal industry as a truck driver. Mr. Fleming was a member of the Clintwood Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Berlin and Virgie Blevins Fleming, and a sister, Maurine McFall. He is survived by his wife Kay Fleming, Clintwood; one son, Steve Fleming and wife Theresa, King, NC; his daughter, Rhonda Cobb and husband Jamie also of King, NC; one sister Jeanean Fleming, Clintwood; five grandchildren, Brandi, Austin, Grayson, Mason and Nathan; one great-grandchild, Trevor; several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will be Tim McFall, Johnny McFall, Bobby Meade, Jr., Blake Fleming, Tony Mullins, Andy Grant, D.R. Mullins, Trey Meade, Gavan Meade, and Billy Dotson. Honorary pallbearers are: Doug Mullins, Don Adkins, Bob Beverly, Gene Rife, Dr. Lurton Lyle, the CHS class of 1956, and friends from the Calleb Cove Camp Ground. Military graveside services will be conducted by VFW Post 8979, DAV Chapter 35, American Legion Post 227, and Virginia National Guard Honor Team.
