Obituary

On Wednesday, June 30, 2021 Kermit Quinton Brown passed away at the age of 91.  Quinton was born on January 17, 1930, in Clintwood, to Theodore "Ted" and Myrtle Yates Brown. He served in the United States Navy for nine years. Quinton was on the USS Trathen DD530, the USS Ticonderoga CVA 14, the USS Intrepid CVA 11 and at the US Naval Base Anacostia in Washington, DC and the US Naval Station in Newport, Rhode Island. After the leaving the Navy, he worked for Clinchfield for 30 years. During his time at Clinchfield, he learned to use heavy equipment for a variety of jobs, such as making roads.

Quinton had a great love and a green thumb for gardening. In his younger years, he loved to hunt, especially coon hunting with his coon dogs. In his older years, his hunting focus turned to protecting his garden from all the local wildlife. He Enjoyed making apple butter with his family and friends. He was a hardworking man who rose early every day and worked from sunup to sundown. Quinton was never one to sit idle-he was always cutting wood, working on his farming equipment, building something, farming, raising animals-cattle, chickens, pigs and goats, or working in his garden. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to all of his neighbors. Quinton was a jack of all trades.

Quinton loved country and gospel music. He always had a radio on in one of his sheds tuned to a country or gospel music station. He had a quick wit and an infectious smile. He always had some free advice for you if you needed it. It might cost you some time on one of the many swings he had scattered around his farm, but it would be precious time and good advice.

Quinton accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and loved to have prayer with his family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ted and Myrtle Brown; brothers, Esau Brown, Harold Brown, Johnny Brown and Benny Brown; sisters, Mavis Brown Bowling and Patricia Brown Gardner.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, June Brown of Clintwood; brothers, Ronnie Brown and wife Sondra of Haysi, Bobby Brown and wife Sandy of Clintwood and Gene Brown of Clintwood; his sister, Arlene Brown Long of Edmond, Oklahoma; several nieces, nephews and a special friend.

Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, July 3 rd at Noon at the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Joe Hutchinson officiating. Visitation will begin at 11 am. Burial will follow in the Phipps Memorial Cemetery, Clintwood. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
