Obituary

Nita V. Ratliff, age 93, was born on September 18, 1917 in the Caney Ridge section of Dickenson County. She died July, 29, 2011 at Heritage Hall, Clintwood, Virginia. Nita had worked as a cook for W.M. Ritter Lumber Company in Kentucky, she went by the nickname "Cook", which was given to her by her brother, Oak, she also worked at Norton Dry Cleaners and Clintwood and Coeburn sewing factories. She belonged to the Rugsby Freewill Baptist Church. Mrs. Ratliff was preceded in death by her husband Stuart Ratliff in 1956, her parents Gillie and Pearl Mullins, brothers Webb, William Gip, Parkis (Chief), Ersle, Kay, Eck, and Thadeus Oak Mullins. She is survived by sister, Vona Mullins, Clintwood, Virginia, sisters-in-law, several nieces and nephews who thought of her as a grandmother. Everyone who knew Nita loved her, she was always taking food to everyone. She always said "she loved everybody." The family would like to thank Betsy Yates, the nursing staff at Heritage Hall and Dr. Rimon Ibrahim. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday, July 31st, 2011, 7:00 pm, at the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Jim Meade and Tommy Slemp officiating. A graveside service will be at 11:00 am Monday, August 1st, 2011 at the Ratliff Cemetery on Caney Ridge . Pallbearers will be Norman Mullins, Greg Mullins, Benny Kennedy, Benjamin Kennedy, Tracy Evans, David Pokey Stanley and Lester Hill. Honorary pallbearers will be Bruce Willis, Jimmy Vance, Ed Yates, and Darrell Hibbitts. Family will receive friends Sunday after 6:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Rugsby Church, c/o Shelby Willis or the Dickenson County Food Bank.
