Millard Artrip age 84 was born Nov. 6, 1926 in Hellier, KY. He died Nov. 26, 2010 at the Johnson City Medical Center, Johnson City, TN. He resided in the Foxtown Community of Clintwood his entire life. Millard was a retired coal miner and retired as a Mine Safety instructor for Clinchfield Coal Company. He served in the U.S. Army in communications during WWII. Millard was a 53 year member of the Clintwood Masonic Lodge #66 and a member of the Valley View Freewill Baptist Church for over 55 years. He was a former member of the Clintwood Town Council. Millard is preceded in death by his parents James Beldon (Jim) Artrip and Mertie Robinson Artrip, along with two brothers Johnny Artrip and Nelson Mullins Jr., three sisters Nell Mooney, Estelle Meade and Geneva Artrip. Survivors include his wife of 64 years Betty Jo Artrip and sons Gary Artrip and wife Diana, Jerry Artrip and wife Rebecca all of Clintwood. One Brother Willard Artrip of Clintwood, one sister Alberta Dye of Springfield, IL. A special thanks to Doctors Rimon Ibrahim and Walid Saado, Pastor Lynn Vanover and Matt Fuller. The family will receive friends at the Clintwood Funeral Home Sat. Nov. 27, 2010 after 6:00 PM. A Masonic Service will be held at 7:00 PM . Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 PM Sunday Nov. 28, 2010 at the Valley View Freewill Baptist Church with Pastor Lynn Vanover and Matt Fuller officiating. Burial will follow at the Phipps Memorial Cemetery, Main St. Clintwood, VA. Pallbearers will be members of the Clintwood Masonic Lodge. Millard will be remembered as a loving husband and father. He was liked for joking and straight forward approach and never met a stranger. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
