Marzetta Davis
Fleming
Jul 24, 1941 — Mar 10, 2026
It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Marzetta Davis Fleming and Buddy Ray Fleming. Marzetta passed away peacefully with her daughter, Michelle, by her side on March 10, 2026. Buddy passed away on July 29, 2024, following a serious illness, in which Marzie cared for him devotedly through his final years. Both Marzie and Michelle were by his side. Married for almost 64 years, they shared a full, joyful life built on love, laughter, family, and travel — often journeying together with family and friends to visit loved ones and see special places. Marzie was born and raised in the close-knit community of Clintwood, Virginia — a place she carried in her heart throughout her life. It was in second grade that she met her future husband, Buddy Ray Fleming. Their love story began during recess, when Buddy — dressed in full cowboy attire, complete with hat, toy gun, holster, and rope — happily played "Cowboys and Indians," capturing other children on the playground, including Marzie. They often laughed and said they had been in love ever since. Buddy and Marzie married and began their life together, spending fifteen years in Michigan before returning in the mid '70s to Clintwood, to be close to their families and live in the area they loved most. The following year, Marzie began her career with First Community Bank, where she served for 43 years. She treasured her customers, most of whose families she knew across generations — grandparents, parents, children, and cousins alike. Helping people came naturally to her, both at work and in everyday life, and she was blessed with deep friendships that began in childhood and as an adult and continued throughout her years. She served on several organizations, including, most recently, the Dickenson County Chamber of Commerce Board and the Lions Club. Marzetta loved her volunteer work, exploring any city, SW Virginia events, decorating her home, reading, pizza, Willie Nelson, shopping at vintage stores, and going on road trips. Buddy Ray, on the other hand, loved the outdoors, his yard, mowing, gardening, reading autobiographies, Bob Dylan, long chats with friends, driving deep into the country on the roads of Dickenson County, and going to Birch Knob. Marzetta and Buddy are both deeply missed by their surviving daughter, Tammy Michelle Fleming. Marzie is also survived by her loving sister, Judy (Eddie) Baker; nieces Lisa (Bo), Rebecca, and Amelia Webster, and Lauren Baker-Erickson, nephews Grady (Lori), Connor, and Brady Baker, and Reid Webster. Buddy was survived by his nieces, Gilda (Ernie) Stanley, Trena (Tommy) Dye, Pam Wajtowicz, and Vivian Whisenand, nephews Duane (Rita), Gregory (Donna), and Mike (Jody) Yates. They both leave behind cherished cousins, dear friends, and neighbors who became like family and who loved them dearly. Marzetta is preceded in death by her parents, Virgil and Alma (Hughes) Davis. Buddy was preceded by his parents, Lucian and Hazel (Yates) Fleming. Michelle is profoundly grateful for the love, support, and prayers offered by family and friends during the last 2 years. While it is not expected, if you wish to honor Marzetta and Buddy's memory, you may consider supporting a cause that was close to their hearts: St. Mary's Health Wagon. Marzetta and Buddy will be remembered for their kindness, generosity, lack of pretension, and devotion to those they loved.
