Mary Mae Ratliff, passed away Sunday, March 13, 2011, at Heritage Hall Health Care, Clintwood, Virginia. Born on Georges Fork in Dickenson County, Virginia on January 9, 1933, she was the first child of Luther A. and Tone E. Ratliff, both deceased, and has one brother, Bill Ratliff, who lives in Leland, North Carolina. Born with cerebral palsy, she graduated from Clintwood high School in 1954 and lived with her parents. She joined Clintwood Baptist Church September 3, 1952, and loved going to church all her life. Reading her Bible daily, working picture puzzles, reading the newspaper, riding her three-wheel bicycle and listening to the radio filled her days. The last years of her life were happily spent at Heritage Hall Health Care, where she was known for her outgoing personality and joking with people, often rolling her wheelchair out into the hallway to greet anyone walking by. At one point she served as Chair of the Resident Council and would bang her gavel with enthusiasm. She loved to participate in the various social activities and especially the religious services, at the nursing home, which became family to her. She will be missed by her family, the staff and her many friends. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 16th, at 11:00 AM at the Clintwood Baptist Church. Family will receive friends, Tuesday, 6:30 PM at the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel.
