Marshall Hughes age 85, passed away Sunday, September 06, 2026, at Heritage Hall, Clintwood, Virginia.
Mr. Hughes was born in Clintwood to the late Burns and Olive Hughes. He was a lifelong resident of Clintwood and graduated from Clintwood High School. Mr. Hughes retired from American Electric Power. He was a deacon of Clintwood Baptist Church, Mason of Clintwood Lodge 66, head of the Dickenson County Gideons, founding member of Clintwood Rescue Squad and board member for many years.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Hughes was preceded in death by his great nephew, Dylan and nine siblings.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Frances Hughes, son Arnie Highes and wife Kim of Culpepper, Virginia, sister, Freda Coleman of Manassas, Virginia, niece, Christy Gayle, nephew, Bob Gayle and wife Cassie and Peaches the cat.
The family will receive friends Tuesday, September 08, 2026, from 11 am until 1 pm at Clintwood Baptist Church, services will begin at 1 pm with Jay Perrigan, Gobel Johnson, Keith Dotson and Joe Glenn Sluss officiating. Burial will follow at Hughes Family Cemetery, Barrett Farm Road, Clintwood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Clintwood Rescue Squad members, Clintwood Masonic Lodge members and employees of American Electric Power. Honorary pallbearers are Bob Gayle, Blake Gayle, John Johnson, Walid Saado, Ray Spenilla, Earl Mullins, Jim Mullins, Mike Yates, Joe Fannon, Kerry Belcher, Anthony Lynch, Bobby Hammons, Robbie Blevins, Lynn Stanley, Steve Blansett and Austin Kelly.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to The Gideons International, PO Box 2247, Clintwood, Virginia, 24228.
