Obituary

Mabel Vitatoe Gus of Tarpon Virginia was born May 1 st , 1946 Age 75 went to be with the Lord December 9, 2021. Heaven gained another Angel.

Mabel was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County Virginia and was a member of Clinchco Freewill Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend to all that knew her. Mabel graduated from Haysi High School in June 1964. She married the love of her life George Junior Gus. They were married 37 years. Mabel worked in a grocery store and CNA for 16 years. The satisfaction of helping people in the field of nursing was most rewarding to her. Mabel enjoyed cooking, gardening, fishing, sewing quilts, and going to church. She loved children. Mabel loved Georgie and Joe with all her heart. She loved Russell and all the children in her family with all her heart. Mabel will be dearly missed by her family and anyone who came to know her. Though our hearts are broken, let us take some peace in knowing that God gained another Angel in Heaven. Mabel was an umbel sincere Christian and loved the Lord and put him first in her life. Her nickname was digger doo.

She was a loving, caring, kind, hard-working, giving, strong, and independent woman. Mabel helped others and was loved deeply by her family. She was a virtuous woman, doing all she could for all she knew. Mabel was a Blessing to her entire family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and loved to laugh and make others laugh, for this she is to be respected as many times she was suffering, but never showed herself struggling. Mabel was a true woman of dignity, devotion and fortitude, never breaking and never bending. She was a great example to all who knew her and will be remembered for her loving heart, her true faith in God, her simple intellect and inner beauty that shined through her sweet eyes and beautiful smile.

Mabel is preceded in death by her parents Carl and Wanda Vitatoe, grand-parents John Henry and Emma Mullins, Jerry and Elizabeth Vitatoe, loving husband the love of her life George Junior Gus, Daughter Greta Gus, Son Gregory Thomas Gus infant, Brothers Hubert Vitatoe, Frank Vitatoe, Sister Brilda Sharon Vitatoe, Brother-n-law Russell Lantz. Sister in law Leta  Vitatoe.

Survivors include: One daughter Georgie Carol Gus Puckett and husband Joseph of Tarpon. One sister Phyllis Lantz of Tarpon, Brothers Carl Vitatoe of Cookville Tn, Lawrence (wife Lisa) Vitatoe of Tarpon, Jerry (wife) Bella Vitatoe of Tarpon, Sister-n-law: Shielah Vitatoe of Lick Creek. Niece Emmylou Fuller Wallace

Nephews Russell Lantz, Tarpon, Chris Vitatoe Colorado, Charles Cross, Junior Cross, Cookeville TN, Larry Vitatoe, Steven Vitatoe, Timothy Vitatoe, Hubert Junior Vitatoe, Eric Vitatoe, Nieces: Wanda Ann Vitatoe Hayes, Latasha Stump, Jolene Boyd, Cheryl Sutherland, Polly Boggs, Cassandra Mullins, Katrina Scott, Teresa Vitatoe.

Funeral Services will be held at Clintwood Colley Funeral Home Chapel at 7 PM Sunday December 12, 2021 with Jerry Vitatoe officiating. The Family will receive friends after 6 PM.  Graveside services will be Monday December 13, 2021 at 2 PM at the Gus, Puckett and Vitatoe Cemetery, Tarpon, Virginia Pallbearers will be family and friends.  All visitors are requested to wear a mask, be fully vaccinated, and adhere to social distancing due to COVID-19. In lieu of flowers family request donations be made to Joe and Georgie for cemetery Fund.
