Leon Fayne Ramsey age 85, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2024 at Ballad Health Hospice House, Bristol, Tennessee. Mr. Ramsey was born in Haysi, Virginia and was a graduate of Haysi High School. He held numerous roles throughout his life: a husband, father, grandfather, brother, soldier, and friend. Above all, he was the greatest influence in his families lives. He served in the Navy, retired both the Army and National Guard, and concluded his career with the Department of Corrections. Additionally, he retired from Clinchfield Coal Company, where he received an award for his remarkable efforts in rescuing individuals while working in the mines. He was a certified EMT and also retired from JOY Manufacturing, with having served as a U.S. Army drill instructor.
Mr. Ramsey was preceded in death by his parents, Evans and Chloe Ramsey; daughter, Karine Amburgey; one brother, Arlin Ramsey; two stepsons, Keith and Ezra Summey; first wife, Helen M. Ramsey.
Survivors include his wife, Bobbie Ramsey of Clinchco; two sons, Jeff Ramsey and Trudie of West Unity, Ohio and Derrick Ramsey and Vickie of Castlewood, Virginia; two step-sons, Jimmy Summey of Woodway, Virginia and Robert Summey and Christy of Church Hill, Tennessee; grandchildren, Zachary Ramsey, Heath Summey, Madison Couch and Ben, Charlie Summey, Malarie Ramsey, Justin Summey, Johnathan Summey, Lilly Summey, Jenny Summey, Jillian Summey; step-grandchildren. Levi, Landon, Lindy, Corvan and baby boy Couch on the way, May 25.
The family will receive friends Sunday, December 15th at 11 am at Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. Funeral will be conducted at 1 pm with Henry Meade officiating. Burial will follow at the Ramsey Ridge Church Cemetery. Military Honors will be held at Cemetery.
