Kermit Quention Yates, age 86 was born March 12, 1930 and passed away July 15, 2016 at his home following a massive stroke.
He was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County, and was a life time member of the Clintwood Rescue Squad. He was a Korean War Veteran of the 24th Infantry Division 1951-1952. Mr. Yates was a school bus driver for Dickenson County Public Schools for 32 years, worked at Mountain Ford and a Chrysler dealership before going into business himself at KRB Auto Repair. He was one of the best Mechanics in the Clintwood area for 38 years.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Carol Yates; his loving parents, Tom and Lillian Yates; step mother, Nannie Rasnick Yates; brothers, Carroll Yates and wife Nell, James Yates and wife Colleen, and Gene Yates; sisters, Doris Stanley, Jewell Robinson and husband Bepo, and Nancy Adkins and husband Ronald; sister-in-law, Alice Epling Lester Rasnick; great-grandson, Tyler Yates; Ivan Stanley, Roy Bill Fleming and Josh Robinson
He is survived by two sons, Ronnie Yates and wife Debbie, and Gary Yates and wife Sharon all of Clintwood, VA; two daughters, Debra Baker and husband Jimmy, and Rita Cox and husband Jarvis all of Clintwood, VA; sisters, Martha Stanley of Clintwood, VA, Madge Fleming of Coeburn, VA, Ida Branham and husband Ken of Clinchco, VA; brothers, Joe Rasnick and wife Alice of Wixom MI., Arlie Rasnick and wife Shirley of Clintwood, VA, Tivis Rasnick and wife Kathleen, Ronnie Rasnick and wife Shenia, and Fayne Rasnick all of Clinchco, VA; brother in law, Bobby Stanley; sister in law, Norma Yates; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild that is due in September; he is also survived by a special friend of the family James Beverly.
Funeral services for Kermit Yates will be conducted at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 19, 2106 in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Frank Hall, Lynn Vanover and Andy Mullins officiating. Burial will follow in the Yates Family Cemetery conducted by the VFW Post 8979. Pallbearers will be Ronnie Dean Yates, Kermit Cox, Josh Cox, Matthew Baker, Tanner Yates, Butch Kelly, Roy Mullins, and James Beverly; Honorary Pallbearers will be, his brothers, Fred Cox, Chris Anderson, Andy Mullins, Dustin Farmer, Johnny Vance III, Greg Owens, Rob Case, Freddie Church, Lowell Perry, Earl Perry and Keith Brooks. Visitation will be held beginning at 5:00 PM Monday, July 18, 2016 in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with a song service at 7:00 PM.
