Mrs. Katherine Lee Newberry Phipps, passed away at her residence on Monday, August 31, 2026.  Born in Clintwood, Virginia to late Willie and Vaudney Newberry, she was a member of the Pine Creek Freewill Baptist Church.  A loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, she enjoyed playing card games such as Go Fish with her grandchildren and working in her flowers.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Phipps was preceded in death by her husband, Avery W. Phipps; two sons, Timothy and Randy Phipps; her sisters Irene Jones and Dollie Stevens;her brothers, Cecil Newberry, Sidney Newberry, Arlie Newberry, Jerry Newberry and Jack Newberry.

Mrs. Phipps is survived by her son, David Phipps; her grandchildren, Michael Phipps (Loretta) of Clintwood, Jennifer Phipps of Clintwood, and Crystal Taylor (Pete) of Manassas; her greatgrandchildren, Isabella, Peyton, Sadie, and Adelynn; her brothers, James Newberry (Beulah) and Bill Newberry( Martha) a sister Ann Moore ( Elmer).

A visitation will be held Thursday Sept. 3, 2026 from 11:00 AM until Noon, the Clintwood Funeral Home chapel with a graveside service to follow at the Phipps Family Cemetery on Fairview Road, in Clintwood.  Frank Hall will officiate; family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
