Joseph "Joe" Dennis Taylor, 59, Hiltons, VA Hiltons, VA -- Joseph "Joe" Dennis Taylor, 59, went to be with the Lord Friday, December 3, 2010 at Brigham and Women's Hospital, Boston, Mass., with his loving family by his side. Born in Wise Co., Va., he was a son of the late Dewey and Allie Taylor. He was a Vietnam veteran, serving in the U.S. Army, and worked in construction most of his life. He was a deacon at Darthula Baptist Church, where he was loved by all the children for his wonderful sense of humor. He had a heart for mission work, and had been on several mission trips. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Joseph "Joey" Taylor; and sisters, Virginia Coffey, Ann Toney and Dixie Hill. Surviving are his wife, Kathy Maiden Taylor, of the home; children, Jennifer Owen and husband Todd, Fort Irwin, Calif.; Chris Taylor and wife Misty, Elizabethton; Allie Darnell and husband Gerald, Hiltons, Va.; Nakoa Gardner and husband Joe Watts, Atlanta, Ga.; and Daniel Taylor, Hiltons, Va.; grandchildren Justin David Regnold, Zachary Joseph Regnold, Polly Taylor, Aidan Taylor, William Taylor, Cooper Taylor, Taylor Darnell and Walker Darnell; brothers, John Taylor, Dallas, Texas; Buford Taylor, Elizabethtown, Ky.; and Sam Taylor, Midlothian, Va.; sisters, Ruby Coffey, Norton, Va.; Mary Lou Ramey, Big Stone Gap, Va.; and Dottie Beck, Southgate, Mich.; and several nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., Tuesday, December 7, at Darthula Baptist Church, 1741 Lunsford Mill Road, Hiltons, Va., and any time at the home. Services will be conducted at 7 p.m. at the church with the Rev. Layton Bentley officiating. Music will be provided by Crystal Shipley and the Darthula Quartet. Military graveside services will be conducted at 10 a.m., Wednesday, December 8, at the family cemetery near the family home with Boone Dam Post No. 4933 of the VFW providing the honors. The family will meet at 9:30 a.m. at the church to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be Brian Bourne, Jimbo Turner, Sam Click, Chris Darnell, Ed Wilmoth and Darius Hall. Honorary pallbearers will be nephews and church family. Flowers or memorial gifts may be delivered to the church between 2 and 5 p.m., Tuesday, December 7. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Darthula Baptist Church, 1741 Lunsford Mill Road, Hiltons, Va. 24258.
