Jonah Cox born September 05, 1945 passed away Sunday, December 25, 2011 at Indian Path Medical Center, Kingsport, Tennessee. Mr. Cox was a life long resident of Clintwood, a 1964 graduate of Clintwood High School and a retired coal miner. He had been employed by Aliceberry Coal Company, Sterling Coal Company and Betty B. Coal Company. Jonah was a hard worker and was gifted enough to do several types of jobs throughout his life. He greeted everyone with a smile, hug and kind words. He was a loving husband and father and a good friend to all. Even though he is gone, his words still live on in our heart and memories. Mr. Cox was preceded in death by his parents, Allen and Sarepta Elkins Cox, two brothers, Herbert and Jimmy Cox and a nephew Douglas Cox. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Mullins Cox of Clintwood. Other survivors include one daughter, Donna Sweet and grandson, Richard McCoy both of Seymour, Tennessee; eight brothers, Wayne Cox and wife Evelyn, Tom Cox and wife Agnes, Jerry Cox and wife Alene, Neal Cox, Kirby Cox, Berton Cox and wife Benita, Jessie Cox and wife Linda, and Joe Cox all of Clintwood; two sisters, Barbara O'Quinn and husband Bobby of Haysi and Sharon Domjahn and husband Alfred of Tomball, Texas; several nieces and nephews that loved him dearly. Funeral services will be conducted, Wednesday, December 28, 2011 at 11:00 am in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Greg Cyphers officiating. Burial will follow at Phipps Memorial Cemetery, Clintwood. Pallbearers will be Darrel Cantrell, Wade Boggs, James McCoy, Richard McCoy, Ron Shortt, Danny Shortt, and Fred Salyers. Honorary pallbearers are Charles Boggs, Elder Stanley, Dr. N.C. Ratliffe, Harold Edwards and Freddie Phillips. The family will receive friends Tuesday, December 27th, 6:00 pm at the Clintwood Funeral Home. A song service will begin at 7:00 pm.
