Johnny William Phipps age 54, passed away May 26, 2013. He was born in Clintwood, Virginia the son of the late Ayers and Dollie Lyall Phipps. He was a graduate of Clintwood High School and later retired as an officer in the United States Army. He was a current employee of the US Postal Service in San Antonio. He was a member of the Disable American Veterans Association and of the Christian Faith. He is preceded in death by his parents and a sister Carolyn Horne. Survivors include his daughter Genevieve Phipps-Chiang and husband Billy of Temple City, CA. three sons; Darek Phipps, John Phipps and Jacob Phipps all of San Antonio, TX. Two grand children Bradyn and Carolyn Chiang, his aunts Opal Simpson, Clinchco, VA. Ruby Bartley, Abingdon, VA. and Mildred Stanley of Clintwood, VA. one uncle James Lyall of Kingsport, TN. A Military Graveside Service will be conducted at 2 PM Tuesday June 4, 2013 at the Turner Cemetery, Road Branch section of Dickenson County with the VFW Post 8979 Honor Guard and Military Funeral Honors Team with the Army National Guard. Minister will be Joe Fuller and Pallbearers will be family and friends.
