Obituary

John Adron Elkins age 78, went home to be with Jesus on January 15, 2018. John was born on January 20, 1939 in Baden, Virginia.  He served in the United States Army from 1962-1964.  The majority of his working years were spent in the coal mines, he was owner/operator of several different mines in Southwest Virginia and Kentucky.  John enjoyed singing in church and going dancing at the Country Cabin.  He loved horses and going to watch horse shows. His day wouldn't be complete without his morning run to Hardee's for breakfast.  John was a very generous man who touched the lives of many people throughout the years, he would help anyone who needed a helping hand.  John loved his family dearly and loved spending time with all his children and grandchildren.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Tilden and Ruby Elkins: daughter, Patty Sue; brothers, Cossie, Hursel, Bill, Custard and Troy;

Survivors include his children, Johnny, Paula and husband Walter, Jeff and wife Lesli, Jason and wife Jamie; grandchildren, Ashley, Haley, Luke, Sarah, Jonathan, Emma, Mayson and Camden; great grandchildren, Aiden, Kameron, Maia, and Lila; siblings; Norma, Anne, Kermit and Cova.

The family will receive friends, Thursday, January 18, 2018 at 11 AM in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. Walter Carlton will conduct funeral services at 1 PM.  Burial will follow in the Elkins Cemetery, Georges Fork. Military graveside services will be conducted by VFW Post 8979, DAV Chapter 35, American Legion Post 227.  Pallbearers are Johnny Elkins, Jeff Elkins, Jason Elkins, Luke Carlton, Gary Mullins, Johnathan Elkins and Jake Elkins. Honorary Pallbearers Dr. Lurton Lyle and Richman Short.
