Jettie Edith Stone Baker, age 98, went to her heavenly home Sunday, May 4, from her home in Clintwood. Born in Isom, VA, Dickenson County, she was the wife of 50 years of the late Grady Baker and passed on the day that would have been their 79th wedding anniversary. Mrs. Baker was the daughter of the late Kenos Stone and Elizabeth Fleming Stone of Isom. She was a member of Valley View Freewill Baptist Church, Clintwood. In addition to her husband, Mrs. Baker was preceded in death by one daughter, Jackie Baker Davis, two grandsons, Bernard Clyde Davis, Jr. and Stuart Lee Johnson, one granddaughter, Karen Mullins Hartsock, one great-granddaughter, Bonnie Davis. She was the last surviving member of her family, having been preceded in death by six sisters, Vergie Vanover, Bessie Childress, Ida Baker, Julie Mullins, Nora Triplett Hughes, and Cora Bentley. She was also preceded in death by five brothers, Ray, Bob, Gus, Lawrence, and Roley Stone. Survivors are four daughters , Iris Faye Davis, Kingsport, TN, Louella Stanley, Libby Mullins, Clintwood, Nina Edwards, Gray, TN, one son and daughter-in-law, Eddie and Judy Baker, Clintwood, eleven grandchildren, Greer Mullins, Clintwood, Alan Davis, Bronx, NY, Sidney Davis, Kingsport, TN, Kathy Lambert, Lenoir City, TN, Jeffrey Mullins, Herndon, Wesley Mullins, Chicago, IL, Sherri Harrington, Orlando, FL, Shawn Edwards, Jonesborough, TN, Grady Baker, Roanoke, Brady Baker, Atlanta, GA, Lisa Webster, Blacksburg. She is survived by twenty-three great-grandchildren, and five great-great-grandchildren. Also surviving are sisters-in-law, Effie Molinary and Irene Stone, Clintwood. Several nieces and nephews also survive. The family wishes to thank Lurton Lyle, MD, for his care, long-time associate Barbara Hensley, Dickenson County Home Health, and the in-home caregivers who so lovingly cared for our mother. The funeral service for Mrs. Baker will be conducted at 7:00 PM on Friday, May 9, in the Valley View Freewill Baptist Church with pastor, Lynn Vanover, officiating. The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM in the church prior to the service. Graveside service will be Saturday, May 10 at 4:00 PM in Phipps Cemetery, Clintwood. Active pallbearers will be grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary pallbearers will be deacons of Valley View Freewill Baptist Church. Those who prefer memorials in lieu of flowers may make a donation to Jettie Baker Center, Valley View Freewill Baptist Church, or Clintwood Baptist Church.
