Janice Sluss Hopson, 76, of 257 Eastwood Drive, Danville, VA died on Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Danville Regional Medical Center after being in declining health since 2006. Mrs. Hopson was born on July 28, 1937 in Clintwood, VA, a daughter of the late Garland Sluss and the late Ethel Bartley Sluss. She was a homemaker and was a member of Glenwood Memorial Baptist Church. On October 1, 1955 she married Marvin James Hopson who died on June 15, 2007. Survivors include a son, Michael Hopson of Danville, VA; and two brothers H.V. Sluss of Danville, VA and Thomas Sluss of Ringgold, VA. In addition to her parents and husband she was predeceased by several brothers and sisters. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 22, 2014 from 7:00 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Wrenn-Yeatts North Main Chapel. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, April 24, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Clintwood Funeral Home in Clintwood, VA. Interment will follow the service in the Hopson Family Cemetery in Clintwood, VA. Pallbearers will be Junior Fleming, Mike Hopson, Guy Sluss, Steven Phipps, Matthew Fleming, Tyler Sluss,Randall Powers and Curtis Sluss. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial donations be made to the local Rescue Squad.
