Jane Mullins, beloved member of the community, passed away on Wednesday June 13, 2007 at the age of 97 at her home on Osborne's Gap after a period of declining health. She was born on January 23, 1910 in Dickenson County and lived there her entire life. Family was one of the most important things in her life: she had 8 children, 23 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren. She was known by many names: Mom, Granny, Aunt Jane, and Ms. Jane. To know her was to love her and know that she loved you. She was a devoted member of the Little Zion Old Regular Baptist Church (established by her grandfather J.C.), which she attended until she no longer. Although she loved to quilt, her real love was to be outside in the garden and was bet known for growing her "Sugar Snap Peas" and making her "Sour Kraut". She had a long life that was lived well. Mrs. Mullins was preceded in death by her husband Steven Mullins; parents, Carrie and Henry Short; sons, Billy Mullins, George P. Mullins; daughters, Arbutus Williams, and Arlena May; 3 brothers and 3 sisters. She is survived by her daughter, Nina J. Mullins, Clintwood; sons David D. Mullins (Judy), Catawba, NC, and John Henry Mullins, Durham, NC, Chalmer Mullins, Hamilton, OH; brother, Thadys Short, Wise; several nieces, nephews and close friends.
