Jamie Hilton McCoy, age 82, went home to be with the Lord at NHC of Bristol, Virginia on Tuesday, October 9, 2012. She was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Henry McCoy. Miss McCoy was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry McCoy; two sisters, Betty Hilton Houston and Hattie S. Phillips; two brothers, Hassell C. Hilton and Clyde R. Hilton. Miss McCoy was a 1947 graduate of Dickenson Memorial High School. She attended Milligan College, graduated from Radford University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and obtained a Master of Arts degree from Peabody College of Vanderbilt University. Jamie did additional degree work at King College, Washington and Lee University and University of Virginia. She taught school for four years for the Wise County School System at Pound High School and thirty- five years for the Dickenson County School System. Miss McCoy taught two years each at Honey Camp and Clinchco and thirty-one years at Clintwood High School. She taught French and English and served as Guidance Counselor. Jamie was a member of Clintwood Baptist Church, joining in 1944 and was a member of the Jamie McCoy Circle. Miss McCoy was a member of the choir and taught Sunday School for over fifty years. She was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma. Jamie is survived by three sisters: Imogene Adkins of Bristol, Virginia, Anna Knight of Johnson City, Tennessee and Lucille Trent of Coeburn, Virginia; one brother, Don Hilton and wife Carolyn of Front Royal, Virginia; several nieces, nephews, great nieces, great nephews, cousins and many special friends in Clintwood and at Clintwood Baptist Church. Her family would like to thank the following for the excellent care and attention Jamie received during her illness; the staff at Grand Court, the doctors and staff at Bristol Regional Medical Center, NHC of Bristol, Virginia and Dr. Samuel Plucker of Sapling Grove Family Physicians. Visitation will be Friday, October 12th from 4:30 pm until 6:30 pm at Clintwood Baptist Church with funeral services conducted by Reverend Bryant Owens to follow at 7:00 pm. Pallbearers will be Dr. William Robinson, Eddie Baker, Danny Rife, Danny Lambert, Marshall Hughes, K.H. Dotson, Mike Yates and Johnny Baker. Honorary pallbearers will be her nephews, Mac Phillips, Kenneth Knight, Joe Adkins, Dana Stansberry, Jerry Childress, active deacons of Clintwood Baptist Church, the Jamie McCoy Circle and the Seekers Sunday School Class. In lieu of flowers, Jamie has requested donations be made in her memory to the WMU of Clintwood Baptist Church. Burial will be at the McCoy Family Cemetery, Flat Top (Leck), Virginia. Those wishing to attend the burial service should meet at Clintwood Funeral Home at 10:30 am on Saturday, October 13th , to proceed to the cemetery for a graveside service beginning at 11:00 am.
