James Powers 88, passed away Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Indian Path Medical Center, Kingsport, Tenneessee. Born in Dickenson County he later moved to Fairfax, Virginia and worked as a mason, and returned to Clintwood in 1998. Mr. Powers served in the United States Navy. He is preceded in death by his parents Vernon and Eura Powers, three brothers Fletcher Powers, Fred Powers and Don Powers and one sister Pauline Hawkins. He is survived by three sons; Jeffrey Powers and wife Kristine of Bedford, Virginia, Michael Powers of Clintwood, and Alan Powers and wife Christina, Culpepper, Virginia: two step-sons Shannon Morris and Larry Morris; two step-daughters Mary Toueful and Karen Myer; one brother Cecil Powers of Clintwood; five grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; along with a host of other relatives and friends. Services for James Powers will be conducted at 2:00 PM Thurs. Jan. 15, 2015 in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at the Powers Family Cemetery, Powers Branch community. Pallbearers will be the family and friends. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until service time.
