James Shelton Hill, age 79, went home to be with the Lord on Friday May 4th, 2007 at the Norton Community Hospital with his family by his side. He was the son of the late Willard and Bonnie Hill, a retired employee of the Virginia Department of Highways, US Army Veteran of WWII and attended Valley View Freewill Baptist Church. Preceding him in death other than his parents was a daughter, Carolyn Sue Hill, and brother Jackie Hill. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Ina Jean Hill; one son, Billy Hill and wife Ella, Clintwood; two grandchildren, Joey Hill, Clintwood, Chris Hill and wife Anna, Clintwood; two great-grandchildren, Grace and Jacob Shelton Hill; two brothers, Gene Hill and Paul Benny Hill, Clintwood; two sisters, Hester Reed, Culpepper, VA and Dorothy Mullins, Clintwood; several cousins, nieces and nephews, a host of friends. Funeral services for James Shelton Hill will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday from the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with minister Lynn Vanover officiating. Burial will follow in the Phipps Memorial Cemetery with military graveside rites by the Clintwood Honor Guard. The family will receive friends after 6:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home with a song service to follow at 7:00 PM. Pallbearers will be family and friends; honorary pallbearers are Hoy Lester, Bill Mullins, Lee Mullins, Roy Strouth, Robert Lyall, Gary Vanover, and James Yates.
