Obituary

Jonah Cephas (J.C.) Phipps was a lifelong resident of Dickenson County. J.C. was a coal miner for twenty seven and half years and enjoyed fishing and hunting. He was a member of the Pine Creek Freewill Baptist Church. Mr. Phipps was preceded in death by his parents, Eurastus and Matilda Phipps; sisters, Eathel Hill and Mazie Fallen; brothers, Carson, Evans, Roger, Harold, Ernest and Donald Mack Phipps. Survivors include his wife of sixty three years, Ruby Kelley Phipps; daughters, Janice Mullins and husband Gary of Wise, Kay Lanier and husband Geno, Rita Jo Mullins and husband Maynard all of Clintwood; sisters, Easter Meade, Lois Rose and husband Kilby , Gaye McGinnis, Faye MacAlexandria, and Kaye Stanley; brothers, George, Kerry, Bobby and Ken Phipps; granddaughter, Shannon Lyall; grandsons, Travis Mullins, Preston Brantley, Thad Lanier and Cody McBride;seven great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren; brothers-in-law, Eugene Kelley, Jim Kelley and wife Henrietta; sisters-in-law, Juanita Seal, Dolly Webb, Barbara Childress and husband Richard; a host of nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted Monday, March 18, 2013 at 11:00 am in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Franklin Hall and Manie Strouth officiating. Burial will follow in the Phipps Memorial Cemetery, Clintwood. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, Sunday March 17th at 6:00 pm. A song service will begin at 7:00 pm.
