Italy Ellen Short Vanover, age 92, took her heavenly flight from Mountain View Regional Hospital Friday, October 6, 2012 with family and friends at her side. She was born February 28th, 1920 at McRoberts, Kentucky to John Dee and Hannah Mullins Cantrell. Mrs. Vanover was an active and loyal member of Fairview Old Regular Baptist Church for forty two years. She was preceded in death by her first husband, Lexie Olaf Short, the father of her three children; her parents; two brothers, Clayton (Thurston) and Bruce Cantrell; two sisters, Bernice Willis and Mildred Rose; five grandchildren, David Vernon, Deborah Lynn, Ethan Andrew, Nathan Levi Short and Daniel Short, II. She was also preceded in death by her second husband of eighteen years, Roy C. Vanover of Pound, Virginia. Mrs. Vanover is survived by her daughter, Leverne and husband Don Stallard of Pound, Virginia; one son, Bennie Short and wife Wilma of Scottsboro, Alabama; one brother, J.D. Cantrell, Jr. and wife Betty of Pound, Virginia; one daughter-in-law Redonda Short of Wise, Virginia; five grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren; three sisters-in-law, Zella (Sis) Mullins, Erma Lee Rose, both of Pound, Virginia and Louise Taylor of Ohio; two step-daughters, Judy Kiser of Pound, Virginia and Jan Moose of Boone, North Carolina. She leaves to mourn her passing a host of friends and relatives that are too many to number. Funeral services will be held at the Fairview Old Regular Baptist Church on Monday, October 8th, 2012 at 7:00 pm with Elders Will Cantrell and Carl Mullins officiating. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday October 9th, at the Arvil Mullins Family Cemetery across from the church.
