Helen Turner, age 82, passed away Saturday, August 20, 2011 at her home. She was a life long resident of Clintwood, worked for over sixty years as a nurse, and was a member of the Clintwood Baptist Church. Preceding her in death are her parents Henry and Grace Short, her husband Alden Turner along with two brothers Claude and Carlos Short, one sister Vera "BB" Sluss. Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law; Molly and Michael Cantrell and Vera and Thomas Mullins all of Clintwood. Three sisters Joyce Skeens, Lewisburg, WV. , Glenda Lovegrove, Billerica, MA. and Madeline Bolling, Kingsport, TN. Nephews, Tommy Short, Joe Harvey Short, David Short, Kip Short, Edwin Skeens, Joel Skeens, Alex Sluss and Richard Sluss, Nieces Robin McGaunn, Brenda Bolton, Donna Leftwich, and Susan Blansett. Along with host of other relatives and friends. A Graveside service for Helen Turner will be conducted at 11:00 AM Wed. Aug. 24th at the Phipps Memorial Cemetery, Main Street Clintwood, with Pastor Bryant Owens officiating. Pallbearers will be family and friends. The family will receive friends after 6 PM Tuesday evening with service at 7PM in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel.
