Harry Lee Strouth, the only child of Silas and Draxie Fleming Strouth was born in Clintwood, VA on January 17, 1931. Harry Lee passed away at his home on May 2 nd , 2019, with his family by his side. He was active in both FFA and 4H.
Harry Lee received his BS degree from VPI's Animal Husbandry Program in 1952. He was active in VPI's ROTC program and commissioned as 2nd Lt. upon completion. While active in the US Army he was advanced to 1st Lt., serving in Japan for 18 months in the Heavy Artillery Division. He was transferred back the US serving in the Radar Division and honorably discharged in 1952.
A job was waiting for Harry Lee in vocational agriculture in Clintwood. He received his Master's Degree in 1961. All 38 years he taught Agriculture and Shop.
Many FFA awards were bestowed upon Harry Lee and his students as the participated in livestock, poultry judging and tree identification.
He is survived by his wife, Evelyn Cantrell Strouth of Pound, VA for almost 68 years. He leaves behind 2 children, MIke (Carolyn) Strouth, and Pat (Lanny) Large all of Clintwood.
He is also survived by 1 grandson, Daniel (Britta) Large, 3 great grandchildren, Noah Taylor, Katie Large and Aubree Large.
Harry Lee leaves behind a host of faithful friends and wonderful neighbors.
Funeral Services will be conducted Saturday May 4th at Clintwood Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 11 am-noon. Services will follow with Mike Yates officiating. Burial and military honors will be conducted following the service at Temple Hill Cemetery in Castlewood, VA.
Pallbearers will be Lanny Large, Daniel Large, Noah Taylor, Allen Dotson, Glenn Graham, Johnnie C. Stanley and Tim Havens.
Honorary pallbearers will be Quentin Brown, Darrell Dotson, Paul Dingus, Bob Yates, Bob Cussins, Wendell Watson, Guy Cantrell, Willie Cantrell, Sid Phipps, Roy Strouth, Susan Wilder and members of the Dickenson County Soil and Water Board.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice.
