Harry Lee Reynolds, 87, of Oakton, Virginia, died Monday, 27 January, in Arlington, Virginia, attended by his loving family, friends and Miniature Schnauzer. Harry Lee Reynolds aka Lee Reynolds was born in Norton, Wise Co., Va., on 23 August 1926. He was the son of Peyton Jack Lee Reynolds, a CC&O Railway conductor, and the late Grace P. (Vanover, Reynolds, Dillard) Nipp. Harry Lee was raised in Clinchco by Maynard Repass, a policeman with the Clinchfield Coal Corp., and Rhoda (Vanover) Repass. His grandfather, Levi Vanover, was a newspaper publisher, teacher, Missionary Baptist minister, and Commissioner of Revenue for Dickenson County. Harry Lee graduated from Clinchco High School in 1943 and attended Lincoln Memorial Univ., Harrogate, Tenn. from 1943 to 1944. PFC Reynolds served from 1944 to 1947 with the 65th AACS and the 7706th Armed Forces Network Co. and from 1947 until 1949 as an US Army civilian in Bremen, Germany. He was a radio announcer, director and performer of popular radio shows, Midnight in Bremen, Take a Break and Combo Time. In 1950, Mr. Reynolds toured with the Barter Theatre production of Claudia as an actor and photographer. He also performed with the Bull Run Summer Theatre, Middlebury, Va. and was a DJ at WMEV in Marion, Va. In 1966 he graduated from American Univ. Wash., D.C. with a degree in Radio and Television Broadcasting and Journalism. Lee directed, produced and starred in children's television shows as Grandpa, Capt. Tugg, and Capt. Lee & Mates on WTTG-TV in the 1950s and 60s. In addition, he was an announcer and on-air operations director for WETA-TV for over 20 years and was a member of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. An avid private pilot for nearly 40 years, Lee had a ride in a Ford Trimotor when he was eight and in 1944 he first soloed in a Piper Cub in Middlesboro, Ky. He was a keen sailor and in the 1960s he lived aboard a 45-foot yawl "Chippewa" on the Potomac River and went on an expedition exploring volcanoes in the Med and Red Seas. Lee was a life-long Washington D.C. area resident who enjoyed entertaining his many wonderful friends and loved to make people laugh. He was preceded in death by his half-brothers Gordon Parkis Reynolds, FN USN and WW II PFC US Army and Robert E. Dillard, US Army, and a half-sister, Betty Dillard. Survivors include his beloved wife Christine (Lewis) Reynolds of Oakton, Va; his son, Richard Lee Stockton, of Lakeland, Fla.; half-sister Rhoda Irene (Dillard) Green of Austin, Tx; nephew, Jack Lee Reynolds III, of Nebo, N.C; niece, Lisa (Green) Biles of Denton, Tx; four grandchildren, Tracy, Andrea, Laura, and Brantley; and six great-grandchildren. A memorial celebration was held on 8 February at Dyer-Gunnell American Legion Post 180 Vienna, where Mr. Reynolds was a member. An inurnment will be held in the spring at the Columbus Phipps Memorial Cemetery. Clintwood-Colley Funeral Home, Clintwood, Va., is in charge of arrangements.
