Funeral services for Gladys Farmer will be conducted at 1:00 PM Tuesday from the Pound River Church of the Brethren with ministers Jack Taylor and Cline Sluss officiating. Burial will follow in the Farmer Family Cemetery, (The Lake Road), Clintwood, VA. The family will receive friends after 6:00 PM Monday at the Clintwood Funeral Home. Pallbearers will be members of the Pound River Church of the Brethren. The body will be taken to the church one hour prior to services on Tuesday. Gladys Farmer, 86, passed away at the Appalachian Christian Village on Friday, September 7, 2007 after a lingering illness. She was born at Red Ash, VA, near Drill the daughter of Giles Keller and Lilly Belle Watson Beavers. She was raised in the Splash Dam Community of Dickenson County where her father was a coalmine superintendent. Her first husband Ralph Mullins; and her second husband Woodrow Farmer predeceased her. While living in the Tarpon community of Dickenson County, she was active in the Freewill Baptist Church as song leader and Sunday school teacher; later moving her church affiliation to the Pound River Church of the Brethren. Mrs. Farmer was a retired schoolteacher with the Head Start Program in Dickenson County. She had lived in the Appalachian Christian Village for the past several years after the death of her husband Woodrow. A brother, Clyde Beavers, and four sisters, Estelle, Margie, June and Lexie, also preceded her in death. Surviving is a son, Ralph Wayne Mullins, Charlottesville; two stepsons, Ralph Farmer of Michigan, and Jerry Farmer of Georgia; one stepdaughter, Lola M. Light of Georgia.
