Obituary

Gilmer Garrett "Fody" Martin of Martintown, Virginia passed away on September 5, 2011. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of the Clintwood Masonic Lodge #66 and the Eastern Star, a member of the United Mine Workers Union Local #2274, served the Lord for many years with Free Will Baptist Faith. He gave to his community serving with Dickenson County Rescue Squad, Dickenson County Food Bank, Dickenson County Honor Team with Military Funerals and many other civic groups. Mr. Martin was preceded in death by one son, Gary Wayne Martin and one grandson, Gary Wayne Martin, Jr.; his father, Con D. Martin, and mother, Ollie Branham Martin; six brothers, Kermit Martin, Ben Martin, Doc Martin, Herbert Hoover Martin, Emory Martin, Alton Martin; three sisters, Virgie Martin, Wilma Jean Martin and though recently departed, the eternal love of his sister Delphia Kathleen Martin Powers. Mr. Martin is survived by his wife, Gay A. Martin, Martintown, Virginia; one daughter, Brenda Martin, Fairfax, Virginia; one grandson, Bryan Hubbard and wife Kay, of Lexington, Kentucky; two granddaughters, Alexandra Martin-Mikail and Victoria Martin-Mikail of Fairfax, Virginia; two great granddaughters, Olivia Hubbard and Lauryl Hubbard of Lexington, Kentucky; six sisters, Ruby Martin, Martintown, Virginia, Dixie Martin, , Shirley Taylor, Myrtle Hartsock and husband Ben, all of Dante, Virginia, Vada Adkins and husband Ervin, Phyllis Barton all of Michigan and brother-in-law, Wade Powers, Jr. of Martintown. Funeral Services for Gilmer Martin will be conducted at 1:00 Friday Sept. 9, 2011 at the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darrell Milgrim officiating. Military rites and Entombment will follow at the Temple Hill Memorial Park, Castlewood, VA. Pallbearers will be Larry Martin, Damon Rasnick, Josh Colley, Roy Sutherland, Charles Martin and Bryan Hubbard. The Family will receive friends after 6 PM Thurs. evening with a Masonic service at 7 PM followed by a song service.
