John Franklin "Frank" Powers, age 98, went home to be with Jesus on Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at the Pikeville Medical Center, Pikeville, Kentucky with his loving family by his side. Frank was born in Dickenson County, Virginia. He was a lifelong member of Lick Fork FWB Church. Frank served in the United States Army during World War II, stationed in the Philippines. He was a retiree of Clinchfield Coal Company. Frank was a loving husband, father, grandfather. His favorite saying to all was "I love you, but God loves you more". For those who knew him his life was his sermon.
Frank was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Ruby Layne Powers; parents, H.B. and Barbara Mullins Powers, 4 brothers, Jerry, Joe, Burnis, and Clinton; 3 sisters, Dosha, Lena and Clara.
Survivors include his children, Patricia (Hoover) Slemp, Janet (Les) Vankuren, Donna (Roger) Bevins, Danny and Julia Mullins Powers, Randy (Darlene) Powers, Norman (Shelley ) Powers, Rhonda (Rodger) Krass; 13 grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and one on the way, 7 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother, Jimmie Powers and 2 sisters, Reeble Hayes and Norma Large.
Funeral services will be conducted Friday, June 21 st at 4 pm at the Lick Fork FWB Church with Roger Bevins and Don Barnes officiating. Visitation will begin at 2 pm. Burial will follow in the Powers Cemetery, Powers Branch. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Military graveside services will be conducted by VFW Post 8979.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to Camp Jacob, 2723 Camp Jacob Road, Clintwood, Virginia, 24228.
