Fern
Rose
Aug 19, 1942 — Jun 12, 2025
Fern O'Quinn Rose, age 82, passed away peacefully on June 12, 2025, surrounded by her family—her daughter Shamberlie, grandson Heath, sister Pattie, and niece Pam Sullivan by her side.
She was born on August 19, 1942, to the late Rufus and Lettie Blankenship O'Quinn.
She was proceeded in death by her husband of 51 years, Bill R. Rose, her stepmother Polly McClanahan, brothers James, Daniel, Lawrence, Eugene, Frank, Clell, Newton, Jessie and Ted O'Quinn and her sister Plina Deel.
She is survived by her daughter Shamberlie Rose Ratliff; grandson Heath Paul Ratliff; sisters Charlotte Rose of Clintwood and Pattie Baber of Crozet, VA; sisters-in-law Janice and Lois O'Quinn; brothers-in-law Harold and Ann, and Glen and Delana Rose.
She was a member of the Little Sarah Old Regular Baptist Church. After closure she took her membership to Mountain View Old Regular Baptist. She loved attending church and cherished her church family.
She loved cooking for her family and friends and enjoyed having them visit her home. A hardworking woman, she began her career at the Haysi Drugstore at age 18. She later worked at the clerk's office in Clintwood, the Dickenson County Health Department, and kept the books for the numerous businesses her and Bill acquired over the years. Her pastime was gardening; she took great joy in planting and harvesting, and her family greatly appreciated the food she preserved from her garden.
One of her greatest memories was when the love of her life at 70 years of age told her he would take her out west if she would go on the Harley. She was 62 at this time and that's exactly what they did for 17 days, and it turned out to be one of their best trips they ever took, and she talked about it all the time.
Her strong faith kept her attending church, even when it was difficult for her to get around. Her favorite Bible verse was John 3:16: "For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have everlasting life." As you go through the days and years ahead, remember Fern whenever you hear this verse. She truly believed that after being saved it was a daily practice to truly give our hearts and lives to Jesus Christ.
