Evelyn Virginia Yates passed away Monday, May 19, 2025, at her residence. Miss Yates was a lifelong resident of Clintwood and a 1952 graduate of Dickenson Memorial High School. She retired from the Dickenson County School System after 40 years of service. Miss Yates was a member of Clintwood Baptist Church for many years and a founding member of the Dickenson County Food Bank.

Miss Yates was preceded in death by her parents, Issac and Hettie Bise Yates and her brother, Olin Yates and wife Peggy.

Survivors include her brother, Guy Yates and wife Barbara of Woodville, Texas; special caregivers, Joyce Dotson, Patsy Salyers and Sandra Mullins; several nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

The family will receive friends Friday, May 23rd, from 4 pm until 6 pm at Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. A service will be conducted at 6 pm with Randy Carter officiating. A service will be held Saturday, May 24th, 11 am at Clintwood Baptist Church with Pastor Jay Perrigan officiating. Burial will follow at  Maple Grove Church Cemetery, Dr. Ralph Stanley Highway, Coeburn, Virginia. Deacons of Clintwood Baptist Church will serve as pallbearers.
