Loving mother, grandmother, sister and friend Evelyn S. Mullins passed into the arms of the Lord December 2, 2014, surrounded by the ones who loved and adored her. She was a shining example of Jesus' love for us, touching the hearts of everyone who crossed her path. She was born May 9, 1931 in Clintwood, Virginia to Allen V. and Virgie Sykes Smith. Evelyn was a hard worker, who loved to be outside whether she was tending to her vegetable and flower gardens or mowing her yard. Cooking might be what she was best known for, making sure you ate a good meal before you left her house. Her life was centered around family and she was the light of their whole world. She was preceded in death by her husband, Chester Mullins; parents, Allen V. and Virgie Sykes Smith; two sisters, Irene Smith Whisenhunt and Louise Smith Vernon; son-in-law, Vester Woods. Survivors include two loving daughters, Donna Woods of Clintwood and Betty Thacker and husband Gary of Norton, Virginia; the joys of her life granddaughters, Dana Mullins and husband Matt, DeAndra Thacker, Jamie Dotson and husband Matt all of Wise, Virginia; two brothers, Jesse Lee Smith and wife Wilma of Wise and Reverend Billy Smith and wife Marcella of Martinsville, Virginia; three sisters, Betty Slemp and husband Reverend Jerry Slemp of Martinsville, Lois Barber and Von Barber both of Manassas, Virginia. The family will receive friends Saturday, December 6th from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. Services will follow at 7:00 pm with Josh Dingus officiating. Family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home at 12:30 pm Sunday, December 7th, to proceed to Smith Family Cemetery, Whispering Pine Road for graveside services beginning at 1:00 pm. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Dr. Lurton Lyle, Bobby Kiser, Gary Thacker, Bobby Kelley and Jamie Cox.
