Mary Emily Dotson Colley, 99, died Saturday, August 10, 2013 at Owensboro Center in Owensboro, Kentucky. She was born August 5, 1914 on Caney Ridge, Dickenson County, Virginia and lived in Clintwood and Norton , Virginia, until 2007 when she moved to Owensboro to be with her daughter, Elizabeth Anne Smothers Gaston. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elmer T. Colley; her parents, Estace and Laura Ball Dotson, and three brothers: Otis, Kenneth and Clarence Dotson. Other survivors include her son-in-law Thomas E. Gaston, Owensboro; four step-grandchildren: Pamela Gaston, Charlestown, IN; Thomas Gaston, Jr.; San Francisco, CA; Theodore Gaston, St. Joseph, MO; and Patricia Chism, Owensboro, KY; as well as seven step-great grandchildren. Among other survivors are Emily's "special children," Jane and Jimmy Dorton, Norton, Va; Kay Verlande, Ephrata, PA; Amanda and Kathy Cornett, Concord, NC, and Mildred Branham, Clinchco, VA. Her surviving nieces are Nancy Bond, Greenwich, OH; and Susie Fleming and Daisy Rose, both of Clintwood, VA. Surviving nephews are Tim Dotson, Mansfield, OH, and Palmer Dotson, Abingdon, VA. Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 15th at 7:00 pm in the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. Family will receive friends beginning at 5:00 pm. Family and friends are requested to meet at the funeral home Friday, August 16th at 10:00 am to proceed to Powell Valley Memorial Gardens for a graveside service beginning at 11:00 am. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
