Duard J. Brooks, 73 died at Dickenson Community Hospital on Monday, April 7, 2008 after a lengthy illness. Born in Dickenson County, VA he was retired from the Virginia Department of Transportation, Veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp, and member of the Skeetrock Bible Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Gladys Brooks, a son, Jimmy Howard Mullins, six brothers and sisters. He is survived by his wife, Leona Brooks, Clintwood; three daughters, Darlene Harr (Ralph) Bristol, TN, Deanna Sluss (Lee) Reedville, VA, and Herletta Lyall (Tony) Clinchco; two brothers, Mike Brooks, Diamond Dale, MI, Don Brooks, Tazewell, VA; five sisters, Lola Mae Kennedy, Clintwood, Betty Gilbert, Abingdon, Doris Adams, Diamond Dale, MI, Edith Stallard, Lebanon, and Joyce Rose, Clinchco; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services for Duard J. Brooks will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday from the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Larry Turner, and Henry Hemond officiating. Burial will follow in the Stone Cemetery, Skeetrock. The family will receive friends from beginning at 6:00 PM Thursday with a song service to follow at 7:00 PM. Clintwood Honor Guard will conduct Military Graveside services. Active pallbearers are family and friends, honorary pallbearers will be Henry Hemond, E.J. Mullins, Clercie Sutherland, Ralph Harr, and Skip Dobis.
