Dorsie Artrip Phipps, 90, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, December 24, 2007 after a long illness. Born in Dickenson County, Virginia she was the daughter of the late Robert James and Maggie Colley Artrip. Mrs. Phipps was married to Cecil Fremont Phipps, who along with Brothers James Artrip, and Dan Harold Artrip; and Sister Shirley Dameron preceded her in death. Mrs. Phipps was of the Baptist faith and a member of the Skeetrock Community Church. She was an avid reader, gardner, interested in genealogy and loved to make crafts and quilts with her hands. She was at one time an active member in the Dickenson County Historical Society, where her favorite stop in town was at the public library. Survivors include one son, Bobby Joe Phipps and wife Jewell, Clintwood; a daughter, Janet Phipps Lester and husband Harold, Big Stone Gap; two brothers, Walter "Bud" Artrip, Kitty Hawk, NC, and Reid Artrip, Bedford, VA; two sisters, Betty Jean Monahan, Clintwood and Annette Thompson, Monroe, LA; five grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.
