Dicky" James Richard Mooney, 54, went home with the Lord on Friday September 9 th , 2022, at home surrounded by loved ones, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Dicky came into the world with a bang on July 4 th , 1968, born in Wise, Virginia to James "Merl" Mooney and Vicky Collins Mooney. Dicky loved living life to the fullest and did so until his last days. He enjoyed riding Harleys, racing cars, spending time with friends and family, woodworking, cooking, and moonlighting as ZZ Top.
Dicky was a graduate of Clintwood High School, Class of 1986. He was a former member of Clintwood Volunteer Fire Department. Dicky worked his entire life at Mooney's Auto Repair, where he further served the community with his wrecker services.
In 2018, Dicky received a certificate of appreciation from the Dickenson County Sherriff's Office for going above and beyond to assist the department with public safety. He received the American Towman Trust Award in 2016 and 2019 after being nominated by the Dickenson County Sherriff's Office.
Dicky married his beloved wife Vicki Wright Mooney on September 24 th , 2012. Together they enjoyed dancing, antiquing, and spending time with their family and friends.
Dicky is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Flora Boggs Mooney and James Taylor Mooney, maternal grandparents Ella Mullins Collins and Alfred Collins, one granddaughter Aliviah Mooney.
Dicky is survived by his loving wife Vicki Wright Mooney, parents, Merl Mooney and Vicky Collins Mooney, one daughter, Autumn Mooney, one grandson on the way, Easton Dutton, one stepson, Evan Steele and one step-grandson, Kasey Cox, one sister, Jennifer (Eric) Mooney Deel, beloved nieces and a nephew, Mariah (Tyler) Steffey Cook, Aaron Steffey, and Brittany (Brad) Deel McKissick and a host of special family and friends.
Dicky especially will be remembered for his fiery personality, his willingness to help others, his wit and his nightly Facebook dinner post. To know him was to love him.
Arrangements are as follows:
Visitation will be Tuesday, September 13 th from 1 P.M. to 7 P.M. with funeral services to follow, Lester Mullins and Charlie Fleming will officiate. The funeral procession to the Boggs Cemetery, Pound, Virginia will begin Wednesday, September 14 th at 11 A.M. from Clintwood Funeral Home.
Pallbearers are as follows Aaron Steffey, Adam Dutton, Eric Deel, Shane Cochran, Bobby Meade, Jr. and Kemmy Mullins. Honorary Pallbearers include: Clynis Phillips, Joey Collins, Winfred Collins, Barry Hill, Mikey D. Wright, LM Wright, Craig Barton, Richard Mullins, Kendall Mullins, Joby Stallard, Rick Mullins, Little Jeff Mullins, Calvin Crabtree, and Delmer Whisenhunt.
In lieu of flowers, amounts can be pledged to a future non-profit to be set up in Dicky's memory to assist Dickenson County residents with expenses for cancer treatment. Pledged amounts can be sent to Vicky Mooney, PO Box 1212, Clintwood, Virginia 24228
