Danny was a graduate of Clintwood High School, Clinch Valley College, East Tennessee State University, and University of Tennessee. He was a teacher, principal, and superintendent in Dickenson and Wise Counties for 37 years, and a professor at UVA-Wise, Tennesse Tech, and Tusculum College. Danny was an avid reader and loved to discuss history, sports, educational and academic topics. He volunteered with several organiztions through Marvin's Chapel United Methodist Church. He delivered meals on wheels and helped with the Melting Pot. He was a member of the adult Sunday school class, Greatful 12, Joy Club, Men's Breakfast Club, and the line dancing group at Marvin's Chapel. Danny was a loving, caring husband, father, and grandfather who loved his family very much. Mr. Greear was preceded in death by his father and mother, Carl and Fannie Greear, brother and sister-in-law Jimmy and Dannie Jean Greear, his father and mother-in-law Burl and Amy Short, sisters-in-law Dinah Lynn Short, Jessie Short Johnson, and brother-in-law Ernie dela Cruz. Surviving is his wife, Louella Short Greear, Gray; sons and daughters-in-law Carl and Kim Greear, Abingdon, Wesley and Sonya Greear, Jonesborough; three grandchildren, Daniel and Emily Greear, Abingdon, Sophia Greear, Jonesbobough; brother-in-law and wife Richman and Glenda Short, Clintwood; Sister-in-law Janice dela Cruz, Clintwood; nephews, James Greear, Jeffery Greear, Lynn Johnson, Chris dela Cruz, and Josh Evans; nieces, Amy Johnson, Kathy dela Cruz, Kimberly Short, Martha Short, Cindy Short, and Sharon Shaver; a host of other relatives and friends including special colleagues Phyllis Ringley, Regina Sutherland and Vera Neece.
