Cora Fay Hammons, age 77, passed away May 17, 2010 at Dickenson Community Hospital, Clintwood, Virginia. Cora Fay Hammons was the daughter of the late Calvin and Myrtle Stanley Hammons. She was a life long resident of Dickenson County and was of the Freewill Baptist faith, being saved and baptized in 1991. She was preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Hammons; two brothers, Elmer Hammons and Hobert Hammons; two infant sisters, Myrtle Lou and Rita Agnes; one daughter, Rita Ann Hammons Moore. Survivors include two sons, Bobby G. Hammons and wife Carolyn, Jeff Hammons and wife Roberta, all of Clintwood; two daughters, Janet Gail Welch and husband Gary of Clintwood, Crystal Lynn Fletcher and companion Wendell Baldwin of Coeburn; three brothers, Carroll Hammons and wife Roxie of Abingdon, William Hammons and wife Edith of Clinchco and Palmer Hammons of McClure; two sisters, Sue Hammons of Bessemer City, North Carolina and Kay Quinlin and husband Charlie of Norton; four grandchildren, James Hammons, Dustin Hammons, Summer Hammons and Faith Hammons. Along with several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted, May 18th, 2010 at the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel beginning at 8:00 PM. Pastor Lynn Vanover will be officiating. Graveside services will be at Phipps Memorial Cemetery, May 19th at 2:00 PM. Grandsons and nephews will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers are Beecher Barton, Ronnie Counts, James Duty and Gary Welch. Family will receive friends Tuesday evening beginning at 6:00 PM.
