Charlie as everyone knew him was an avid hunter and fisherman and loved to tell tales of his hunts and trips to all who would listen.  Born with only one hand many would forget this because he adapted and did anything anyone else would.  When he went to college at Virginia Tech his brother Joe and friends didn't understand why he wouldn't be a cadet with the rest of them, because he hunted and competed with them at everything.  He loved to dance and have a good time.  He enjoyed many bluegrass festivals with Kaye and friends and family.  He always enjoyed camping.  He kept bees and tried to pass on old traditions to grandchildren and the younger generations.  He enjoyed having an apple butter stir over the fire and gathering with family and friends.

He grew grapes and tended his fruit trees making wine and Jellies to give away.  He worked many jobs over the years probably his favorite managing the wildlife and deer hunts at the Radford Arsenal.  A graduate of Virginia Tech 1961 with a forestry degree he was an avid Hokie the rest of his life cheering on his school at football games and tailgating.  He took many grandchildren to their first college football game.  His laugh was infectious and will be remembered.
