Charles Herman Adkins age 80 went home to be with the Lord Saturday August 19, 2006. He is preceded in death by his first wife of 33 years Georgia Belle McCoy Adkins, his mother Effie Adkins, two brothers Clifford and Buford Adkins. Herman was well known barber in Clintwood for 53 years. He is survived by his wife Lucille Adkins, two daughters Teresa Robinson and husband Jim, Helen Artrip and husband Mike, one son Chuck Adkins, three step children Steve Powers and wife Connie, Mark Powers and wife Dorothy, Gwen Yates and husband Mike, three grandchildren Jeff Artrip, Shane Artrip and Andrea Robinson Porter, a special step grandson Stephen Powers, four great-grandchildren, two brothers Don Adkins and wife Pat, Dr. Bruce Adkins and wife Anita of Gate City, Virginia. Funeral Services for Herman Adkins will be conducted at 11:00 AM Monday August 21 at the Clintwood Baptist Church with Pastors Allen Bonnell and Allen Viers officiating. Burial will follow in the Phipps Memorial Cemetery Clintwood, Virginia. Pallbearers will be Mark Powers, Steven Powers, Jeff Artrip, Shane Artrip, Daniel Porter and Mike Yates. Honorary Pallbearers will be Albert Large, Tollie Robinson, Carlos Fleming, Mike Artrip and Jim Robinson. The family will receive friends at the Clintwood Funeral Home chapel with visitation hours 6-8 PM Sunday evening.
