Catherine E. Calo of Aily Road, Dante, Virginia departed and gained her angel wings on the morning of June 17, 2025, surrounded by her children. Her stay on this earth was 88 years 7 months and two days. Mrs. Calo was born at Hatchet Mountain near Nora to the late Frank and Dorothy Austin. She was a lifetime member of the Middle Branch Church and was of the Freewill Baptist faith. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

Mrs. Calo was preceded in death by her husband Eddie Calo, one brother and sister, Thomas Austin and Alma Puckett and son-in-law, Frank Vitatoe.

Survivors include three sons, Frankie Calo and Kathy of Dante, Paul Calo and Becky and Richard Calo all of Lincolnton, North Carolina; two daughters, Shielah Vitatoe and Teresa Calo both of Dante; her brother, Noel Austin and Joan of Goode, Virginia and sister, Lucille Greene and Richard of Clinchco; six grandchildren, eight great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the Health Wagon, CJ Ratliffe and the home health staff.

The family will receive friends Saturday, June 21st from 5 pm until 7 pm at the Clintwood Funeral Home Chapel. A service will begin at 7 pm. Funeral Services will be held on Sunday June 22nd at 11 am with Edward Stanley and Tam Hill officiating. Burial will follow at the Pressley Place, Sutherland Ridge Road, Clinchco, Virginia. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
