Obituary

Bobby (Bob) Edward Baker, age 81 passed away at his home on Baker Ridge in Clintwood, Virginia on Thursday, December 2 nd , 2021.

Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Stuart and Gladys Baker, sisters Betty and Nancy, children Kimberly and Keith, wife of almost 25 years, Amanda Reedy Baker, and furry companion, Rueben. He is survived by his son, Logan Baker, of Los Angeles, California, three sisters, one brother, five grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, and many special cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.

He was a 1959 graduate of Clintwood High School and a 1963 graduate of Carson Newman College. Bob spent summers in high school and college digging basements and working in the coal mines. He was a member of the football team at Carson Newman, where he was a running back and place kicker. He was chosen by the coaching association of the N.A.I.A. as Carson Newman's first Little All-American in 1962. He loved the game of football and the lasting friendships he formed on the field.

Following graduation from Carson Newman, he taught for one year in Clewiston, Florida before returning home to teach and coach football at Haysi High School. Bob later earned his M.Ed. in Educational Leadership and Administration from the University of Virginia. He was an Assistant Principal at Sandlick Elementary School, Principal at Clintwood Elementary School, and Director of Instruction and Interim Superintendent upon his retirement. Although much of his career was spent in administration, he truly loved being around the students.

He married the love of his life, Amanda Reedy Baker, on August 3 rd , 1994. They welcomed their first and only child, Logan Stuart Baker, in 1998. Bob spent his retirement as a devoted husband, loving father, avid golfer, and ping-pong player. He will be dearly missed by all those who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be at 6:00 PM on Thursday, December 9 th , followed by a private service for family. All visitors are requested to wear a mask, be fully vaccinated, and adhere to social distancing due to COVID-19.
